The fifth match of the summer league took place on 15th August at the popular Eisteddfa fishery at Criccieth. Weather conditions were very warm and humid and expectations were high for a good day. Unfortunately the fish had other ideas and weights were lower than hoped for. First place went to Keith Highfield with a mixed bag of carp, tench and roach weighing in at 20lbs 4oz. Pegged next to Keith, Eric Cammidge came a very close second place with 19lb 11oz. A special mention must go to third place man Brian Jones who landed a super 7lb mirror carp on a very light no 5 elastic pole rig. Well done Brian. Full results. Match Results for the fourth summer league match fished on 25th July at Nantanog Lake near Carmel, Anglesey. Weather conditions were great for this local water which can often suffer from winds and it stayed dry and mild. Unfortunately, the fish didn’t realise that they were there to be caught and remained frustratingly absent. Top weight of the day went to Rhosneigr man Ray Swales who had two good tench along with some roach for a total weight of 6lb 11oz. Mark Hill took second place with 4lb 20z. Full Results. Summer League Match. Members of the club travelled away on 10th July to the Hampton Springs fishery at Malpas in Cheshire for the third sumer league match. This is a large well run commercial fishery with several well stocked lakes that the club visit once a year . This years match was held on Willows Lake which is one of the newer lakes on the complex. Mark Hill came home in first place with a mixed bag of fish weighing in at 54lb 8oz followed by Eric Cammidge with 36lb 8oz.. Full Results. The Cancer Research charity match organised by Ron Duckworth took place on Sunday 27th June at the Llyn Y Gors fishery at Llandegfan. Twelve anglers turned out on a day when the weather was good and the threatened rain held off. The winner was Mark Hill with a bag of carp and bream weighing in at 38lb 6oz with Abergele man Malc Rothwell coming second with 21lb 8oz. Eamonn Coleman was just short of this with 17lb 9oz for third place. The club would like to express their thanks to Kevin Coe for the use of the match lake. The club held the 2nd match of the summer league at the Bron Eifion fishery, Criccieth on Saturday 12th June. Many of the lads struggled with a gusting wind but Darren Boot, pegged on the island found himself with the wind on his back and the carp on his front. Darren had a cracking bag of F1 carp fishing “up in the water” and finished with a weight of 92lb 8oz. Mark Hill had an excellent second place weight of 68lb 15oz from a peg on the dam wall. The rest of the” bunch” tried hard but could not come close and even the ever consistent Ray Swales could only manage 24lbs. Full results. The first summer league match of 2010 took place at the “bottom lake” at the Rowen fishery in the Conwy Valley. Overall results were disappointing but a respectable winning weight of 14lb 5oz was put together by Ray Swales . Ray caught most of his roach and skimmer catch using maggot “on the drop”. Mark Hill had a similar bag weighing 13lb 00oz for second place and secret agent man Ronnie Duckworth came third with 10lb 14oz. The club travelled to Criccieth on 18th April for a winter league match at the Eisteddfa fishery. There was another good turnout, with thirteen members taking part in weather that resembled summer rather than spring. Ronnie tried scare tactics by removing his shirt but this had an adverse effect on the fish and he finished well down the list. Valley man Darren Boot easily took first place with a bag of mostly carp, weighing in at 39lb 1oz, followed by Mark Hill with 23lb 01oz and Ray Swales in third place with 18lb 08oz. Most had smaller numbers of carp backed up with skimmers and roach. Brian had a nice early Tench. Sunday 21st February. We had an excellent turnout of fifteen anglers. Thanks to Ronnie for reviving everyone’s enthusiasm and to our new members for turning out on a cold winters day. We were met with a fair amount of snow on the ground and much of the lake with a covering of thin ice but this did not deter anyone, even when the early sunshine disappeared behind the clouds, leaving it very cold. The cold unfortunately kept the carp down and all weights were made up of roach and skimmers. After a pleasant sunny start the weather turned very cold around mid-day as the clouds rolled in. Weights were in line with the weather and Marks top weight of 14lb 7oz was way below expectations. The second match of the winter league also doubled up as the fur and feather and the venue was the pleasure lake at Llyn-y-Gors. The match was fished in very good conditions and due to the close proximity of competitors there was a fair amount of good natured banter. Several of these were caught by club members at the Kings Nordley fishery during a weekend visit to Bridgnorth... Eamonn Coleman looking decidedly worried about bits of his extremities being nipped off! Eric Cammage thinking that enough of these could save the expense of buying supper !!
